What's Going On With the Adoption

It was off to another lawyer's office yesterday. My mom talked to an immigration lawyer in Murfreesboro and he agreed to meet with us. So, yesterday we met. Several people have asked how things were going, so I decided to e-mail and tell what we know in one shot. Basically he outlined three of the same options that the lawyer Bart Gordon's office sent us to in December did.

1. We start over in Mexico and try get fix the mess we've got. To me not an option. We've tried to do it their way, and look where we are.
2. Get a TN judge to issue an adoption here. Then use that to go to through immigration channels to get citizenship granted.
3. Try to get a private bill (just for Hannah) passed. This would be $20,000 plus. Also we would have to get someone in legislation to agree to even pick it up, present it, and fight for it. This is like what they did for that Candian Ice Skater who wanted to skate for the US in the Olympics. Of course the US wanted her so bad, they did it. But since we're just your everyday ordianry taxpaying citizens, I doubt that will fly.

He did tell us that we don't need an immigration attorney at this time, but he would be glad to consult with adoption attornies on any immigration questions they have. He said the good thing is we have some time to make a decision. But we can't wait too, long. If we start now then the courts will count her as 10 until it's finished. It means she doesn't age as for the court proceedings are concerned. If we try to wait until she's 16 our window of opportunity is pretty much shot.

His best opinion is to go with option 2. He gave us the names of some adoption attornies he has worked with. So I guess our next step will be to contact them and see if they will take the case. So pray that we find the attorney God has set aside for this endeavor. It is going to need to be someone who is willing to take a risk. Many of the attornies we've spoken to in the past don't really want to get involved, because it is so complicated and involves a foreign country. Pray for the financial needs to be met and the timing to be God's. We appreciate your prayers.
